Abstract
1434321 Jointing tools RIDGE TOOL CO 21 Jan 1974 02732/74 Heading F2G Apparatus for joining the ends of two aligned plastics pipes, in which the pipes are held in clamps, one of which is movable, the pipes being heated and then butted together, includes a pipe facing tool insertable between the aligned ends of the two pipes to machine the two ends prior to heating, the tool comprising two circular plates (as 42) coaxial with each other and held spaced apart with a sprocket wheel therebetween by means of spacers 45 surrounding bolts 48, each plate having on its outer surface two cutting blades (not shown) disposed in slots 52 therein to machine the end edges of the pipes, and on its inner surface an annular groove formed to receive mounting rollers 38 carried on a frame 35 whereby the plates, as 42, may be rotated by a chain 62 passing round the sprocket wheel between the plates and round a drive sprocket 60. The two clamps for the pipes are mounted on a wheeled frame (not shown) and the pipe facing tool is arranged for reciprocation about the axis of the drive sprocket 60 on the same frame, so that the tool may be positioned between the ends of two aligned pipes for facing the edges thereof and then subsequently removed before the pipes are heated and joined together.
