Abstract

1433976 Dry pet food QUAKER OATS CO 20 Nov 1974 [12 June 1974] 50371/74 Heading A2B A dry pet food contains less than 15% by wt. of water and comprises 4-60% by wt. of a proteinaceous adhesive, 2-40% by wt., of a plasticizing agent, fat, and optionally up to 25% amylaceous ingredients and up to 35% by wt. of sugar. Preferred proteinaceous adhesives are alkali modified oil seed vegetable protein or collagen, albumen or sodium, calcium, magnesium potassium or ammonium caseinate. Suitable plasticizers include glycerol, sorbitol, 1, 3-butanediol, mannitol, propylene glycol or mixtures thereof or corn molasses, corn syrup and sugar syrup. The food is made by mixing the ingredients with sufficient process water and cooking at 160-270‹F, followed by cooling and cutting into suitable pieces. The cooking may be effected in an extruder barrel followed by extrusion onto a conveyer.
