1433884 Pipe stopper G W TEMPERTON 27 Feb 1974 [28 Feb 1973] 10151/73 Heading F2P A device for sealing a pipe-line comprises an inflatable bag having a neck portion through which the bag may be inflated and an elongate member extending from the neck across the interior of the bag, the elongate member having at least one channel formed in the external surface thereof along which an inflating medium can be conducted in or out of the bag. In an embodiment the neck 2 of an inflatable bag 1 is fitted over a coupling 6 having at one end an internally screwthreaded portion 7 into which a hose from an inflation device, e.g. a pump may be screwed. One end of an elongate member 8 having a plurality of straight or curved channels 9 disposed around and arranged longitudinally of the axis of the member is either screwed into or stuck to the other end of coupling 6. The member 8 extends across the bag and its other end which has an unchannelled portion is inserted into the neck 3 of the bag 1 and is held therein by a cap 11 and a metal clamping ring 10. The bag has an interior wall 4 made of rubber or synthetic plastics material and a cover 5 of cotton or synthetic plastics material. The elongate member may be rigid or semi-rigid and made partially of rubber or plastics material, e.g. nylon or wholly or partially of metal. In another embodiment the end of the elongate member remote from the end attached to the coupling device held in the first neck of the inflatable bag has channels which extend right to the end of the member so that when this end is inserted into the second neck of the bag a connection is provided by the channels to a second bag attached to the second neck.
