Abstract

1433821 Photo-electric smoke detectors PYROTECTOR EUROPE GmbH 15 May 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 23179/73 Heading G1A A photo-electric smoke detector comprises a support plate 14 supporting a forwardly extending cylindrical wall 18 between itself and retaining plate 16, side portions 36, 37 of the plate 16 engaging into recesses 40, 42 to prevent lateral rotational movement between parts 14 and 16. The wall 18 seats in recesses 20, 28 in the plates 14, 16, which are provided with spacing web portions 44, so that ambient air may enter dark chamber 46 around the ends of wall 18. The chamber 46 is illuminated by lamp 48 via tube 50, and lens 54, focusing the light into trap 52. The photo-resistive cell 56 is shielded from direct light from the source by extension 58 of tube 56 and from light reflected from trap 52 by shield 60, and responds only to light scattered by smoke which has entered the chamber. The back of plate 14 serves to support electrical components and a printed circuit board. Plate 14 is supported on base 12 by prongs 66 which engage in sockets 68. Sides 38, 39 may be translucent so that the lamp 48 may be inspected or lamp 72, which can be a flasher for indicating lamp 48 or battery failure, can be seen.
