Abstract
1433613 Automatic control of electric generating plant WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 22 April 1975 18239/73 Headings G3N and G3R A steam turbine driven electric generating plant is controlled by a central digital processing means, which provides positioning signals for steam valves in response to operational input data and the contents of a memory in which is stored interrelated programs, a continuous comparison being made between the actual and commanded positions of the valves and an alarm being given if there is a disparity between the two greater than a predetermined value. Manual control is also provided, this being caused to track the processor derived command signals, and changeover is prevented if the alarm signal is present. If the alarm exists for more than a prescribed time the command position is brought towards agreement with the actual position and normal control is resumed, but if this adjustment is necessary repeatedly shutdown of the plant is initiated. The complete system is described in detail, using sixteen figures. The digital processor is a commercially available computer but certain aspects of the control may be in analogue form. For example, the speed is measured by three magnetic pick-up devices; one provides digital signals and the others analogue, and the computer selects the appropriate one according to (unspecified) dynamic conditions.
