Abstract

1432862 Automatic control of temperature PLESSEY CO Ltd 15 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 4210/73 Heading G3R A windscreen heater element WH, Fig. I, e.g. of an aircraft or other vehicle, is energized by current pulses via transistors T2, T3, the mark/ space ratio of the pulses being controlled by a pulse width modulator circuit PM as a function of the deviation in windscreen temperature, sensed by a resistive sensor THR, from a desired temperature. A constant amplitude pulse is produced by a differential amplifier DA of the modulator PM each period a control voltage V E , constituted by a sawtooth voltage V S from a relaxation oscillator ROS plus a variable voltage V EO , exceeds a DC reference voltage level VR, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The voltage level VEO, and hence the control voltage VE, is modified as a function of the temperature deviation by a signal from a bridge circuit BC containing the temperature sensor THR Overcurrent prevention is effected by a feedback arrangement (schematically shown) via a resistor VAR.
