Abstract
1432811 Analysis on porous support DAMON CORP 10 April 1973 [11 April 1972] 17109/73 Heading G1B A method of analyzing a liquid sample for a constituent of the sample comprises delivering the sample and one or more reactants in a liquid state with repeatable spatial concentration distribution to a selected site of a porous support medium, which may be of glass fibre optionally mixed with cellulosic fibres, to form at the site a layer which is only optically thin (defined), a reaction product being formed within the layer, directing electromagnetic radiation towards the analysis site, and determining from the site a measure of the intensity of the resulting radiation, this being linearly related to the concentration of the reaction product. The measurement may be made using the fluorometer disclosed in Specification 1432812. The test site may be defined by a wax ring. The repeatable spatial concentration distribution of sample and reactant(s) may be obtained by introducing them to the site in an order which minimizes spreading of the one by the other; this may be done by introduction of large molecule substances before small molecule substances. Examples relate to determination of glucose in blood with measurement of the fluorescence of the reaction product.
