Abstract

1432524 Belt gearing DAYCO CORP 26 June 1974 [22 Aug 1973] 28395/74 Heading F2Q [Also in Division F1] In a belt drive transmission assembly having an endless belt 12A, Fig. 5, which may be used on an automobile engine, a driving sheave 13A and driven sheaves 15A, 16A, 17A, are each provided with circumferential V-grooves 22A with walls 23A, Fig. 6, and the belt 12A has corresponding longitudinal ribs 30A of trapezoidal cross-section throughout the length of the belt, while the opposite flat surface 31A of the belt engages the plain cylindrical peripheries 24A, 41A and 39A of the driven sheaves 14A, 40A, and a belt tensioning device 20A respectively. In an alternative embodiment, having an endless belt 12B, Figs. 9, 10, which engages sheaves (13B, 14B, 15B, 16B and 17B), Fig. 8 (not shown), in an arrangement similar to that of Fig. 5, the driving sheave (13B) and the driven sheaves (15B, 16B and 17B) each are provided with a series of radial teeth projecting from the base of a V-groove, with a series of circumferentially-spaced grooves 22B, Fig. 10, arranged between the teeth, and the belt 12B is provided with transverse teeth in the form of spaced projections 30B which engage in the V-grooves of the sheaves, while the opposite flat surface 31B of the belt engages the plain cylindrical periphery (24B) of the driven sheave (14B). The belt may be composed of elastomeric material, with reinforcing filaments.
