Abstract

1432242 Spoons SPREADALL (PTY) Ltd 17 April 1973 [25 April 1972 20 July 1972] 18480/73 [Also in Divisions B4 and H5] An article, e.g. a knife, spoon or paint scraper, comprises a metal operative portion, e.g. a blade 11 formed with a chamber 20 within which an electric heating element 24 is mounted a moulded plastics handle 12 and means e.g. a fibre washer 28, to prevent the material of the handle entering the chamber during the moulding operation. The blade 11, Figs. 1 and 2 is made from a single sheet of metal having two parts 16, 18 each formed with a recess such that when the two parts are folded together, the chamber 20 is formed; the edges 22 of the blade are seam welded together. The heating element comprises two coils wound on a mica core and insulated from the inner surfaces of the chamber by mica plates; after the introduction of the element into the chamber, mica powder or fire clay in granulated form, is inserted therein. The blade may then be rolled to reduce the thickness of the blade. The electric leads may be connected directly to the element as shown or a terminal box may be mounted in a chamber formed in the handles; alternatively, a socket may be included in the handle and the power source connected to a plug for insertion into the socket. A rheostat may also be provided in the handle.
