Abstract

1432073 Cyclohexene aldehyde TAKASAGO PERFUMERY CO Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 02566/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises 3 - methyl - 5 - (3- methyl - 3 - hydroxybutyl) - 3 - cyclohexenecarboxyaldehyde. The compound may be prepared by dimerizing isoprene to give 2,7-dimethyl - 1,5,7 - octatriene, reacting this with sulphur dioxide gas to give 2-(3-methyl-3- butenyl) - 4 - methyl - 3 - sulphone, reacting this with sulphuric acid to produce the sulphone sulphonate which is saponified with an alkali to give 2 - (3 - hydroxypentyl) - 4 - methyl - 3- sulpholene, heating this to produce 2,7-dimethyl - 5,7 - octadiene - 2 - ol and reacting this with acrolein to produce 3-methyl-5-(3-methyl- 3 - hydroxybutyl) - 3 - cyclohexenecarboxyaldehyde.
