Abstract
1431855 Capacitors INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 19 June 1973 [22 June 1972] 28930/73 Heading HIM A continuous method for manufacturing solid electrolytic capacitors comprises attaching sintered anode bodies 1 to a conductive conveyer strip 3 of substantially the same width as the bodies by welding anode leads 2 to the strip, conveying the attached bodies in sequence to manufacturing stations where they are anodized and provided with a cathodic assembly comprising a manganese dioxide layer, graphite layer and silver layer, bringing a surface of each coated body into contact with the conveyer strip and securing it through solder layer 11 (Fig. 5), applying a layer 7 of encapsulating material over the bodies, removing portions 8 of the conveyer strip to intercept the electrical connection between the anodes and cathodes, and cutting the assembly along lines A to provide individual capacitors wherein terminals are constituted by parts 3a, 3b of the conveyer strip. The arrangement of the coated anodes on the conveyer strip and the severing may be such as to produce multiple units, e.g. bipolar capacitors (Fig. 6, not shown) or more complex arrangements having different sizes of capacitor units (Fig. 8, not shown). The conveyer strip may be nickel, aluminium, iron or copper, and may initially be provided with laterally extending portions to constitute plug-in contacts of the eventual capacitor.
