Abstract

1431822 Artificial sweeteners ALBERTOCULVER CO 1 June 1973 26281/73 Heading A2B An artificial sweetening composition in dry pulverulent form comprises 0.5 to 10% by weight of aspartyl phenylalanine methyl ester the remainder of the composition being a starch hydrolysate having a D.E. of 20 or less, and not more than 4% moisture. The composition is made by mixing an aqueous solution of the hydrolysate at 30 to 80‹C with an aqueous solution or slurry of the dipeptide at up to 40‹C in appropriate proportions, and drying within 5 minutes, e.g. by spray-drying. The mixture may be passed through a preheater before spray-drying. The starch hydrolysate may be corn or mils e.g. waxy maize or waxy milo starch. The composition may additionally include minor portions of Na or Ca saccharin, cyclamates, gums, thickeners, stabilisers, surfactants, preservatives and flow conditioners. Potassium sorbate is mentioned in an example. Hydrogen peroxide or glucose oxidase may be added to avoid discoloration. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1152977 and 1256995.
