Abstract

1431062 Credit cards and the like E W Mc CREATOR 26 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 20079/73 Heading B6A A credit card or the like is produced by obtaining a specimen, e.g. signature ABC, Fig. 1, of a desired characteristic of the intended card holder, distorting the specimen using an optical system comprising a plurality of mirrors and/or prisms, and applying the distorted specimen ABC, Fig. 4, to the card in a photographic step. The distorted specimen may be exposed directly on to a photosensitive portion of the card or a separately produced photosensitive plate may be used from which the distorted image is printed or embossed on to the card. Several types of suitable distortion are specified. The optical system may comprise two parallelipipedic prisms cemented together and provided with silvered faces. A corresponding system is used to rectify the distorted specimen shown on the card, for verification.
