Abstract

959,976. Cheques etc.; fraud preventing; handwriting comparing. TELEREGISTER CORPORATION. June 7, 1960, No. 19952/60. Drawings to Specification. Headings B6A and BOX. [Also in Division G5] A document comprises a surface bearing a composite scrambled cryptic presentation comprising informational bits of an intelligible display disposed in a plurality of spaced zone of said surface, which bits by themselves are sufficient to preserve the intelligibility of the display and random non-informational bits which if viewed by themselves as a group present no intelligible information or symbol, said random non-information bits being disposed between said zones so that the composite presentation is an unidentifiable display from which however the intelligible display can be identified when said non-informational bits are obscured. The informational bits may be derived from a signature or a picture. The preferred method of preparing the document is by a photographic process in which the signature or picture is photographed through a screen as is a sample of non-informational handwriting. From the latter photograph an encoding dummy is produced which may be in the form of a negative having the non-informational bits in the spaced zones between which are transparent zones corresponding in spacing to the spacing of the zones of informational bits in the first photograph. The document is then produced by printing from a photograph of the encoding dummy superimposed in aligned position over the photograph of the informational bits with the original screen interposed also in aligned position. In an alternative method the document may be produced from a photograph of the signature or picture taken through a screen bearing in the spaced zones non-informational bits of handwriting. It is preferred to leave a blank space between each line of informational and non-informational bits.
