Abstract

1430118 Solutions for mercerizing etc HOECHST AG 26 June 1973 [26 June 1972] 30190/73 Heading D1P An aqueous solution for treating or mercerizing cellulosic fibrous material, comprises from 10 to 400, preferably from 200 to 250 g/l of sodium, potassium or lithium hydroxide or a mixture of two or more of these, and from 0.1 to 5, preferably from 1 to 5 g/l of a phosphonic acid derivative of the formula in which R stands for an aliphatic linear or branched or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical (6-10C), and each of X and Y, which may be identical or different, stands for a hydrogen, sodium or potassium atom or an aliphatic linear or branched hydrocarbon radical (1-4C). Specified phosphonic acid derivatives include disodium n-octane phosphonate, sodium methyl n-octane phosphonate, sodium ethyl n-octane phosphonate and camphane phosphonic acid. The solution may additionally contain an adjuvant such as isopropanol, butanol, butyl diethanolamine or triisobutyl phosphate. The solutions are used for treating cellulosic fibrous materials, eg. cotton and textile materials containing cellulosic fibres in addition to synthetic fibres. Treatment times of 5 to 90 seconds are exemplified and the process is preferably carried out at from 0-25‹C.
