Abstract

1430048 Lock nuts and bolts STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO 18 May 1974 22304/74 Heading F2H A lock nut 10 has a bearing surface 26 the outer periphery of which is polygonal in shape, and the surface of which comprises an annular portion 30 provided with serrations 28, the radial extent of the outer boundary of the annular portion being at least coincident with a midpoint 40 of a side of the outer periphery of the bearing surface, thereby defining circumferentially discontinuous smooth areas 42 of substantial radial width. The bearing surface of a bolt head may be provided with a similar serrated surface, (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). The crests 34 of the serrations may be radiused or provided with flats or lands. The serrations may be radially oriented, as shown, or may have a skewed orientation.
