Abstract

1430038 Fastening rib supports PROTEK AG 23 May 1974 [28 May 1973] 16928/74 Heading E2A [Also in Division A5] A device for treating a funnel breast condition, by holding the breast bone and two opposing ribs in desired relative positions, comprises similar elongate brace members 1 each having one end 1a for securing to a rib, means 3, (4) Figures 7 and 8 (not shown) for clamping the other ends of the members 1 together and a fastening element (2) Figure 4 (not shown) for attaching the clamping means 3, (4) to the breast bone. The brace members 1 comprise slightly curved strips having a row of depressions 1b on one side and projections lc of similar shape e.g. spherical, on the other side, each projeotion being disposed opposite a depression. The ends 1a for securing to a rib are bent both out of the plane of the strip and relative to its longitudinal axis. The clamping means comprises a base plate 3 having a first groove 3a with depressions 3d, the other ends of the members 1 being superimpact and received in the groove with the depressions and projections 1b, 1c, 3d nesting in one another when the ends 1a of the member have been secured to the ribs. A flexible strip fastening element (2) has one end (2c) anchored in a recess 3g one end of a second groove 3b in the base plate, the other end, which is apertured, being secured to a spigot 3e in the second groove after being disposed around to the breast bone. A cover plate (4) slid over the base plate clamps the members 1 and the fastening element (2) in their respective grooves 3a, 3b. Alternatively the base plate may have only one groove (13a) Figures 12, 13 (not shown) for receiving the members 1, the fastening element comprising a wire loop (12) Figure 18 (not shown) received by a hook (13g) on the base plate and a hook (14e) on the cover plate (14). The cover plate and the base plate may have co-operating deformable hooks (13e) and notches (14c) along corresponding edges for receiving them together.
