Abstract
1430003 Gyromagnetic phase - shifters PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 June 1973 [22 June 1972] 28946/73 Heading H1W A gyromagnetic phase-shifter uses a meander line 3 of the configuration shown, in which the separation between adjacent limbs of each loop increases linearly from the open end of the loop. This results in a substantially constant differential phase-shift over a wide band of frequencies. The invention may be applied to continuously variable phase-shifters using soft magnetic material or to digitally-variable phase-shifters using remanence-switching in hard material. The magnetic material may be yttrium iron garnet (YIG) which may be used for the substrate of the meander line or, where a non-magnetic substrate is used, may be incorporated in elements adjacent the line.
