Abstract

1429824 Making freewheel cages SOC ANON FRANCAISE DU FERODO 28 June 1973 [30 June 1972 (2)] 30854/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] An assembly cage (for the jamming and/or rolling members of a one-way coupling or a bearing of the kind including coaxial outer and inner tracks between which are located the jamming and/or rolling members within the assembly cage) has a generally cylindrical form with a series of windows in which the members are housed and comprises two annular end plates assembled together by connecting means which define the circular series of windows intended to receive the members, the connecting means having terminal portions comprising a dove-tail intended to be engaged in an opening formed in an end-plate which is larger than the section of the terminal portion, the locking together of the assembly being effected by radial deformation of the end-plates at a point opposite the openings on at least one side of the dove-tails. As shown in the first embodiment, each annular end plate 10, 11, Fig. 1, has T-shaped openings 21, Fig. 4, into each of which is inserted a dove-tail 18, Fig. 5, at one end of a connecting bar 12. The bars are permanently retained by deforming the outer periphery of each end-plate radially inwardly at each side 30, 31 of each dove-tail, Fig. 3. Preferably each bar 12 has a central projection 17, Fig. 3, and two terminal projections 15, 16, having a part-circular profile, to retain the rollers R as shown in Fig. 1. In the second embodiment, the windowforming component is a "ladder" 121, 122, Fig. 9, rolled into cylindrical form (or a series of shorter such ladders may be installed successively). Opposite each "rung" of the ladder is a dove-tail projection 124, Fig. 16, in the shape of a trapezium of which the straight face 126 is located adjacent face 128 of a rectangular slot 125 in end plate 123 while the oblique face 127 is spaced from the other end 129 of the slot. Each end plate is then deformed radially outwardly at all the points P, Figs. 9, 17, to lock the dovetails 124 in place.
