Abstract

142,951. Muhlfeld, J. E., and Caracristi, V. Z. Feb. 24, 1919. Shoots.-A storage hopper adapted for supplying pulverulent fuel to locomotive tenders, ships' bunkers, or the like is provided, as shown, with an oulet pipe 13 depending from the lower tapering part of the hopper 10, in which is arranged a feeding-screw 33 mounted on a vertical shaft 27 driven by a motor arranged on top of the hopper. Below the screw is arranged a sliding valve 15 and a tubular extension 41 upon which is mounted a telescopic sleeve 42, the lower end of which is adapted to engage with a tapering opening 44 on the top of the tender 19. A vent 59 is provided at tEe top of the tender for the escape of air and dust which is carried back to the hopper 10 by a flexible hose 56 connected to a pipe attached to top of the hopper and provided with a flange 58 of rubber or other material adapted to form an airtight connexion with the opening 59. The sliding valve 15 may be replaced by a disk valve adapted to rotate about a diameter.
