Abstract

1429286 Antiskid braking systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 2 Aug 1974 [3 Aug 1973] 34103/74 Addition to 1428223 Heading F2F An antilocking device forming part of a vehicle brake system comprises a valve assembly 1 operably connected to a wheel sensor 2<SP>1</SP> supplying signals to electronic control apparatus 3<SP>1</SP> which converts signals indicative of wheel retardation into control signals for electromagnetically operated pilot valves 6, 7 each controlling a valve 18, 19 of which one, 18 is a two port/two-way valve and the other 19 is a three port/two-way valve, both valves being connected in the brake line of the system the two-port/two-way main valve 18 being connected behind the three port/two-way main valve 19 in the direction of a wheel cylinder and a throttle 33 housed in a branch line 35 parallel to the two port/two-way main valve 18 and a non-return valve 15 also being housed in the branch line 35 the non-return valve 15 allowing pressure medium to flow only to the brake cylinder. When a wheel approaches skid condition pilot valve 7 is operated so that valve 19 moves downward to block brake line 4, 5 and open cylinder 3 to atmosphere via valve 18 After a sharp drop in pressure to point 2 of the graph shown in Fig. 2 of pressure against time the circuit for valve 6 is closed to close valve 18 and prevent further drop in pressure. At point 3 on the graph both valves 6 and 7 are turned off so that a steep pressure rise is allowed to point 4 when valve 6 is closed and valve 18 closes so that the increase in brake pressure can only be effected at a lower rate 'via the throttle 33.
