Abstract

1314294 Antiskid braking systems BENDIX CORP 2 July 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 31130/71 Heading F2F A vehicle antiskid braking system including a sensor 20 producing a voltage representative of wheel rotational velocity has a transducer 12 for converting brake pressure into a pressure signal, a circuit 16 for changing the pressure signal into a voltage representative of torque exerted by the braking system at the brake pressure, circuits 24, 26 for converting the velocity voltage into a voltage representative of the product of angular deceleration and moment of inertia of the wheel, a comparator 28 for comparing the said product voltage and the brake torque voltage to obtain a voltage representative of torque exerted by the road surface on the wheel, a differentiating circuit 30 to determine the maximum value of said road surface torque and control means responsive to the output thereof for operating the inlet and outlet valves 36, 50 of a brake pressure modulator to maintain the said surface torque at a maximum by varying the braking pressure. When the road torque Q R passes through its maximum value, a zero output is realized from circuit 30 and a comparator 32 gives an output signal which sets a flip:flop 34 which energizes the normally open valve 36 to prevent increase of pressure to the brake cylinder and simultaneously a pressure memory 38 will be energized to memorize the pressure signal sent by transducer 12 when the maximum road torque was obtained. A second pressure memory 40 is energized to receive the output of memory 38 and has an output one half cycle behind memory 38. A predetermined percentage of the first memory output is memorized by memory 40 so that the pressure in the wheel cylinder can be decayed through solenoid valve 50 slightly before maximum road torque has been obtained.
