Abstract

1429227 Automatic tenders moving past winding stations W REINERS VERWALTUNGS GmbH 19 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 29030/73 Heading D1J The invention relates to yarn winding apparatus of the kind in which a trolley 70, Fig. 2, (see top right hand corner) moves past a plurality of winding stations 3 to effect, where necessary, a servicing operation relating to the yarn supply source of a winding station. According to the present invention the trolley 70 is capable of stopping at a winding station and sensing whether a doffed supply tube at an ejection setting 24 has any residual yarn thereon and, if so, causing said doffed supply package to move to a setting 22 where the yarn thereon is recoupled to the take-up spool 14, the supply package being then returned to its supply position 17 or; (b) if the doffed supply tube has no residual yarn thereon, causing the empty yarn supply tube 25 to be doffed at the ejection setting 24 and theresulting empty package holder 20 to be moved to setting 22 where it awaits for the trolley 70 to lower a fresh supply package 11 from a setting 106 to the level of the setting 22, the trolley 70 then pushing the fresh supply package 11 onto the package holder 20 at setting 22. The apparatus includes a travelling knotting device 5 that starts the operation by the trolley 70 if it detects an absence of yarn in a thread brake 51. Such yarn absence causes the travelling knotting device 5 to move a switch rod 63, of the relevant winding station, into the path of the trolley 70 to halt it. Thereafter an armature 82 on the trolley 70 causes a residue feeler 79 to swing to a setting where it approaches the doffed supply tube 25 at setting 24. If the feeler 79 carries out a full swing this indicates that there is no remaining yarn on the tube 25 and presser lever 85 then swings into engagement with a journal 27 of-the holding means for the tube 25 to cause said holding means to release the tube 25. The empty package holder 20 then moves to setting 22 to await a fresh supply package. If there is remaining yarn on the tube 25 at setting 24, the feeler 79 is prevented by said yarn from carrying out its full swing and this in turn prevents movement of the presser lever 85 and there is. no transfer of a fresh supply package from the upper setting 106. Instead the doffed package is moved to setting 22 where the yarn end is recoupled to the take-up spool. The package then moves to supply position 17. The trolley 70 has a suction nozzle 116 that seeks out the thread commencement of a supply package 11' at setting 22. The trolley 70 also has a thread lifter 126 for moving the sucked-off thread to a valve plate 69 where it can be found by the knotting device 5. The trolley 70 has transport means 100 for lowering a fresh package 11 from setting 106 to the level of setting 22, and a light barrier 105 which ascertains whether a fresh yarn supply package 11 has been delivered by overhead travelling means 47 to the station in need of attention. In the absence of such a package the light barrier 105 causes the trolley 70 to await the arrival of a fresh supply package at station 106.
