1429223 Dental stands SIEMENS AG 27 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 20246/73 Heading A5R A dental apparatus comprises a housing 25 for a dental handpiece 7, a quiver 11, and a retracting device which enables a supply line 32 either to extend partly outside the housing 25 or to be retracted into the housing 25 while in the same quiver 11. The quiver 11 can be tilted on a pivot 12 and its rear end is biased by a spring 28 toward a surface 26 of the housing 25. Removal of the handpiece 7 causes actuation, via rods 29, 30, of a switch 31 which energises the handpiece 7. The rear of the quiver 11 has an aperture for the supply line 32 and is spaced from an aperture 33 in the housing 25 so that the line 32 can hang freely. The supply line 32 passes over a pulley 34 and is tied to a stationary connector 35. The pulley 34 moves on a carriage 36 on rails 38 and is biased by a spring 40 towards the rear. A wire bow 44 engages a hook 45 on the carriage 36 to retain it in one extreme position in which the line 32 hangs freely. On release of the hook 45, caused by tugging at the line 32, the carriage 36 is pulled in and retracts the line 32. In an alternative embodiment a quiver (50), Fig. 4, (not shown) is adjacent a housing (55) which has an aperture (57), defined by a ring (60) of a low friction material, through which the line may hang. In another embodiment a quiver (61), Fig. 5, (not shown) is adjacent a housing 62 and a recess, formed in the quiver (61) allows the line to hang freely. The dental apparatus includes several handpieces in respective quivers, each pivotable about a horizontal axis and having a retracting device. Each quiver has a longitudinal slot which permits the respective supply line to hang downwardly through it. A spittoon, a water supply and switches for drills on the handpieces are provided.
