Abstract

1428878 Priming and propellant compositions DIEHL 8 July 1974 [3 Aug 1973] 30110/74 Heading C1D [Also in Division F3] A primer for caseless ammunition comprises a pressed powder body 1, a pressed primer pellet 7, and a striker 9 of pressed combustible material secured against displacement by adhesive 11. The adhesive bond is broken when the striker is struck by a firing pin. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the tip of the striker is in the form of a ring and the primer pellet is mounted on a conical protuberance of the body 1. The body 1 consists of: 13% flake powder, flake size of 0À2-0À6 mm., 77% graphited ball powder, sphere size 0À4-0À6 mm., 10% butyl acetate as binding agent. The primer pellet 7 consists of: 42% lead styphnate, 3% tetrazene, 40% barium nitrate, 5% lead dioxide, 10% calcium silicide. The striker 9 consists of; 35% flake powder, flake size 0À2-0À6 mm., 50% graphited ball powder, sphere size 0À4- 0À6 mm., 15% butyl acetate as binding agent.
