Abstract

142,867. Nordell, E. Dec. 18, 1918, [Convention date]. Coating-machines.-In a machine for coating the insides of fibrous cans or other receptacles with viscous liquids such as those used in greaseproofing, means are provided for revolving the inverted vessel while the interior is sprayed with the warm coating material. The excess of the latter is removed centrifugally after the spraying has been stopped automatically. The cylindrical or conical vessel 10 is gripped by several springs 13 fixed to uprights 15 which are pivoted at the upper ends of the supports 17, 18, so that the vessel is able to swing under the influence of centrifugal force into the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, when the holder is. unlocked by the device 92, 95, Figs. 1 and 5, and the spraying is stopped. The supports 17, 18 are fixed to the plate 19 which rotates about the stationary hollow upright 22 through the agency of the pulleys 21, 29 and band 28 when the clutch 35 connects the power shaft 30 with the pulley 29. Attached to the same shaft as the pulley 29 is another pulley 53 which, together with band 52, pulley 51, and worm-wheel 48, sets the shaft 46 in motion and the wheel 45 and cams 96, 80 attached to it. The clutch is operated by the depression of the lever 37, which however also causes a finger 44 of the rod 41 to leave a notch in the rim of the wheel 45 in which it has been held by means of spring 40. Thus, as soon as the vessel commences to rotate, cam 80 operating the valve 68 causes spraying to begin from the multi-jet nozzle 60 which continues until cam 96, by raising rod 98 and shoe 99, causes pin 92 to release the holder 15 when valve 68 is closed by the cam 80: Rotation ceases when the finger 44, having been riding round the circumference of wheel 45, once more enters the notch therein, thereby enabling the rod 41 under the influence of spring 40 to raise the arm 37 and release the clutch 35. The coating material drains from the walls 71 and shields 74, 75 to the jacketed tank 78, from the bottom of which it is pumped to the receptacle 65.
