Abstract

1428652 Fire alarms; selective signalling PLESSEY CO Ltd 22 March 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 6432/72 Headings G4H and G4N [Also in Division G1] A fire alarm system comprises a detector arranged for communication through a mains feeder cable with an alarm signal producing means, an alarm signal being initiated when the detector is operated and ceases to transmit signals into the cable for reception at a location along the cable where the alarm signal producing means is situated. As described the detector is a smoke detector (see Division G1) which may incorporate a temperature detector and an intruder detector, and which may form part of a ceiling rose. A plurality of detectors may be provided each having associated with it means for transmitting pulses into the cable unless a fire is detected. The pulses may be delivered sequentially so that if one pulse in the sequence is missing, not only is a fire condition detected but the location of the detector which has been operated is also indicated. A fire detector 20 including a bimetallic strip or a fusible element is also provided.
