Abstract

1428629 Mining coal SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH CORP 20 May 1974 [14 Feb 1974] 22496/74 Heading E1F A method of comminuting coal comprises treating the coal with an effective amount of moist ammonia, where the ratio of water to ammonia is up to 72:28 by weight, to reduce interlayer forces at natural interfaces present in the coal so that the energy necessary to fragment the coal subsequent to the treatment ranges from 0 up to an amount substantially less than for untreated coal and applying the energy when necessary to comminute the treated coal.
