Abstract
1428402 Prostaglandins C UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH (COURT) 22 March 1973 [28 March 1972 17 May 1972] 14520/72 and 23135/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises optically active prostaglandins C of the Formulµ I and II wherein m is 0 to 3; n is 2 to 5; X and Y are -CH 2 CH 2 - or X is cis-CH = CH- and Y is -CH 2 CH 2 - or cis-CH=CH-; and R 1 is H, C 1 -C 12 alkyl, C 3 -C 10 cycloalkyl, C 7 -C 12 aralkyl, or phenyl optionally substituted 1 to 3 times by chlorine atoms or C 1 -C 4 alkyl radicals, and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof when R 1 is H. The compounds are obtained by incubating compounds of the formula or 19-hydroxy-PGA 2 with the prostaglandin A isomerase of mammalian blood plasma at a pH of about 7, isolating the resulting compounds in which R 1 is H, and if desired, esterifying or salifying them. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral, parenteral or rectal administration, contain the above compounds or salts thereof together with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. The compound possesses similar pharmacological] properties to the corresponding prostaglandins A.
