Abstract

1428205 Beam axle suspensions F SCHAEFF 25 May 1973 [19 June 1972] 25185/73 Addition to 1348582 Heading B7D In a vehicle suspension including an axle connected to the vehicle frame 10 at each side of the vehicle by a pivoted longitudinal arm formed in accordance with the main patent by two leaf springs 16, 18 having respectively uniform and varying bending resistances along their lengths, one leaf spring 16 terminating in an eye 26 connected to the frame 10 by a pivot pin 14, and the other leaf spring 18 terminating in a looped end 74 which surrounds the eye 26 with clearances arranged so that the spring 18 is relieved of longitudinal and torsional loads, there are formed on the looped end 74 bearing surfaces 70, 72 which engage the eye 26 without vertical play to prevent rattling. The bearing surfaces 70, 72 are provided by deforming the cross-section of the looped end 74 to produce central ribs, beads or knife-edges which bear on the eye 26. A bearing bush 28 in the eye 26 is longer than the width of the eye and has mounted on its ends plastics discs 80 which transmit lateral loads between the eye 26 and the frame 10. The pivot pin 14 is secured in slotted bearings on the frame 10 by clamping screws 78.
