Abstract
1428180 Image converter tubes DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 7 May 1974 [12 April 1973] 17566/73 Heading H1D A thermal image converter incorporates a pyroelectric screen 2, e.g. of tri-glycine sulphate, upon which the thermal image is incident through the germanium window 4 and an infrared transparent, positively-biased, electrode layer 7, e.g. of graphite, to modulate the reflection from the opposite side 15 of the screen of the flood beam from the electron gun 8, the reflected beam being diverted by a transverse magnetic field provided by a pair of coils 11 on to the fluorescent viewing screen 19. To prevent fading of the display due to progressive charge equalization over the surface 15 of the screen 2 when viewing a stationary scene, either the converter is moved about, or a chopper is employed to modulate the received image. The cylindrical anode 12 is maintained in position in the envelope by spring tangs 20, the other parts being supported from the anode by insulators 21.
