Abstract

The intention is to create a composition which can be converted by polymerisation into a material which is resistant to abrasion, which composition possesses a matrix, which can be hardened by polymerisation, and, in this matrix, dispersed, hard, inorganic filler particles, and is suitable, in particular, for parts of artificial teeth. In a composition of this type, the inorganic filler particles consist of glass and/or ceramic compositions having at least 50% by weight SiO4/2 units and/or AlO3/2 units. These particles have a granule size distribution curve whose smallest granule diameter is in the range of 0.8 to 9.4 microns and whose greatest granule diameter is in the range of 3 to 20 microns. Their matrix is expediently formed from at least one polymer or copolymer and at least one monomer, e.g. from a) a powder which contains polymers and/or copolymers of acrylic acid ester or methacrylic acid ester, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, styrene or butadiene, and b) a liquid consisting of acrylate ester and methacrylate ester from the group of monomers consisting of methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate and bisphenol-A-dimethacrylate. The filler can have particles possessing a negative coefficient of expansion. The average granule size of the filler particles is expediently 7 +/- 5 microns. <IMAGE>
