Abstract

1427959 Plastics laminates BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 27 June 1973 [1 July 1972] 30624/73 Headings B5N B5A and B5B In a process for the manufacture of a laminate comprising an adhesion-promoting primer layer B between layers A and C by extrusion and simultaneous or subsequent bonding of the three layers, the waste material produced in subsequent processing of laminates of the type specified to form finished articles is comminuted, mixed and added, during extrusion, either to layer B or to layer C such that layer A consists at least predominantly of a plastics material a, layer C consists of or contains at least 10% by weight of a plastics material c differing from plastics material a and layer B consists of or contains at least 5% of a block copolymer b of the general formula (X-Y) n or X(Y-X) n where X is a vinyl aromatic polymer, Y is an optionally halogenated diolefin polymer and n is an integer of from 1 to 4, the transitions between the blocks being sudden or gradual. The materials a and c may be a styrene polymer, e.g. polystyrene, diene polymer modified polystyrene, a copolymer of styrene with acrylonitrile, an acrylate, methyl methacrylate, maleic anhydride or α-methyl styrene, or a diene or acrylate rubber-modified ABS or ASA polymer, an olefine polymer, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene or a copolymer of an olefine with a vinyl ester or an acrylate, a chloropolymer, e.g. polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride, a copolymer of vinyl or vinylidene chloride, a chlorinated polyolefine, a postchlorinated polyvinyl chloride, a methyl methacrylate polymer, an acrylate polymer, a diolefine polymer, polyformaldehyde, a polyurethane, a polysulphone or a polyamide. The block copolymer, which may be hydrogenated, preferably comprises polystyrene and polybutadiene blocks. Each of the layers A, B and C may contain up to 50% by weight of conventional additives, e.g. fillers, asbestos fibres, glass fibres, pigments, carbon black, stabilizers, ultraviolet absorbers, antistatic agents, flameproofing agents or lubricants. When preextruded layers are to be laminated, lamination may be effected under pressure and heat.
