Abstract

1427591 Rocker-recliner chairs ROYAL DEVELOPMENT CO Inc 27 Feb 1973 9505/73 Heading A4J A recliner chair preferably a rocker-recliner comprises, on each side of the chair, a linkage mechanism 154 and 170 connected between the seat mounting plate 22, footrest linkage 90-112 and rocker-cam frame 16, 49 and operative to prevent the backrest 82 being reclined when the footrest is retracted and the footrest being retracted when the backrest is reclined. The footrest is moveable to an extended position on rotation of a handle 38 connected via shaft 130 with a crank 134 pivotally connected to the two rear links 90, 92 of the footrest linkage on one side of the chair, simultaneous movement of the foot rest linkage on the other side being effected by a rod 150 rigidly connected between the two links 154 of the locking mechanisms, the connection between the footrest linkage and the link 154 of the locking mechanism preventing the footrest being retracted when the backrest is reclined. Each seat mounting plate 22 is pivotally connected to the rocker-cam frame by parallel links 50, 52 and is moveable on rearward pivoting of the backrest by pivotally connecting link 52 to the backrest via links 78 and 70 and pivotally connecting the backrest to the mounting plate 22 by links 64 and 70. When the footrest is retracted locking links 170 extend rearwardly from their pivots 172 with the rocker-cam frame arm 174 and prevent the backrest from being reclined. A rocker-lock mechanism 40 is actuated when the footrest is extended to prevent rocking of the chair when it is reclined.
