Abstract
1427386 Bleach-fixing photographic silver halide material; automatic control of concentration AGFA-GEVAERT AG 12 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 17603/73 Headings G2C and G3R A developed colour photographic silver halide material is bleach-fixed using a bleach-fix bath containing a heavy metal complex of a complexforming aminopolyacetic acid as bleaching agent and a silver salt solvent by passing the material through a length of bleach-fix bath which is subdivided, bleach-fix bath regenerator which has a low silver content being supplied at the end of the length of bleach-fix bath and the end of the length of bleach-fix bath being carried to the beginning of the length of bleach-fix bath countercurrent to the direction of movement of the material where its oxidizing power is reduced by lowering the pH and/ or adding reducing agent so that colour fog formation is effectively suppressed. The bleaching agent may be the cobalt (III), copper (II) or iron (III) complex of a complex-forming aminopolyacetic acid e.g. ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid. The silver salt solvent may be sodium thiosulphate. The quantity of bleach-fix bath regenerator added at the end of the length of the bleach-fix bath may be such that an overflow of silver-containing bleach-fix bath is obtained at the beginning of the length of bleachfix bath which may be desilvered and processed into a bleach-fix bath regenerator. The oxidizing power of the bleach-fix bath may be decreased using a glass electrode (12) and a calomel electrode for pH control or a platinum electrode for pH control (13) to measure potential in the bleach-fix bath, amplifying the potential in the measuring amplifier (14) and operating magnetic valve (17) by way of governor (15) and relay (16). The storage tank (18) contains acid or reducing solution.
