Abstract
1426768 Finishing edges of non-metallic sheet material FOTHERGILL & HARVEY Ltd 18 Nov 1974 [28 Nov 1973] 55206/73 Heading B5K The edge of an open weave glass fibre fabric is reinforced by the application thereto of an unsintered polytetrafluoroethylene or fluorinated ethylene propylene polymer tape on each side thereof, subjecting this assembly in a press to a temperature of 345‹ C. under a pressure of 8 lbs. per square inch for a predetermined time, e.g. 10 seconds, to fuse the tape and holding the fabric under tension during cooling. The fabric comprises warp and weft yarns 1, 2 of glass filaments coated with polytetrafluoroethylene or fluorinated ethylene propylene polymer. A single reinforcing tape may be folded about the edge of the fabric or two separate tapes one on each side of the edge may be applied. During application, the tape 3 is held by clips and, since P.T.F.E. extruded tapes shrink when sintered, the fabric is held under tension whilst cold air is blown on to the edge reinforcement. Studs may be provided on the reinforced edge.
