Abstract

1426729 Azo dyestuffs IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 July 1973 [15 Aug 1972] 38006/72 Heading C4P Azo dyes which are free from sulphonic acid groups and additional carboxylic acid groups have the formula wherein A represents an opt. sub. aryl radical devoid of a carboalkoxy group in an ortho position relative to the azo link, or an opt. subs N-containing heterocyclic radical which does not form part of a first ring system; X is H, alkyl, Cl, Br or alkoxy; R<SP>1</SP> is H or opt. subs. alkyl; R<SP>2</SP> is acyl, or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are joined together with the N to form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring containing two -CO-groups attached to the N atom; R is H or an opt. subs. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical or a group -YQ; Y is opt. subs. alkylene, and Q is a -OCOZCOOH or group wherein R<SP>3</SP> is H or alkyl and Z is a direct link, alkylene or arylene. Examples of A, when heterocyclic, are indazole, thiazole or thiadiazole rings. The dyes are prepared by diazotization and coupling, with acylation before or after this process. They give yellow to blue shades when applied as dispersions to aromatic polyesters, cellulose acetates, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile and polyurethanes, and blends of the abovementioned fibres with each other and with natural fibres such as wool and cellulosic fibres.
