Abstract

1426714 Flameproof casings WINSTER PRODUCTS (HAZARDOUS AREAS) Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [16 Feb 1972] 7138/72 Heading H1N In electrical apparatus for use in an inflammable environment comprising a main flameproof casing for electrical components and an isolator switch, the isolator switch being in a subordinate flameproof casing 14 disposed at least partially within the main flameproof casing 10, connection from the external supply to the isolator switch being by way of a flameproof connector, and conductors from the switch leading to the electrical components passing from the subordinate casing directly into the main casing, an interlock is provided to prevent access to the interior of the main casing unless the isolator switch is in its isolating condition. The main casing includes a panel 12 which can be opened for access to the interior, the interlock means being provided by an operating lever 33 whose spindle passes through panel 12 and enters via a component 29, having a transverse pin, an aperture in the switch easing 14, this aperture being so shaped to allow passage of this transverse pin and thus withdrawal of the component only when the switch is in the " off " position. In all other positions component 29 is held in the casing 14 so that inspection panel 12 cannot be removed. The subordinate casing is sleeve shaped and is secured to the main casing 10 by a flange 37 which engages a thickened plate 39 welded to the main casing wall. Flange 37 is provided with a flameproof socket connector 41. All conductors entering and leaving the subordinate easing may be encapsulated in epoxy resin. Angular movement of lever 33 may be limited by the provision of a guard member 47. Two other embodiments (Figs. 7, 8, 12, 13, not shown) describe arrangements of the main and subordinate housings for use with a free standing main housing and with a bus-bar chamber respectively, the socket containing flange of the subordinate casing and the conductor arrangement being modified in each case.
