Abstract
1426697 Coating apparatus, fluidised bed support P C JONES 23 April 1974 17668/74 Headings B1F and B2L A fluidised bed apparatus comprises a base arranged to receive powder with a filter 4 at the same level extending across part of it to define a plenum chamber 3 supplied with air or other gas from an inlet 2 and at least one part on which powder from a supply means 11 accumulates to retain the fluidised bed over the filter. The unfluidised powder may be in two spaced parts or extend all round the bed. As shown the bed is used for coating electrical components 12 and its depth is determined by a front wall 6 with a knife edge top 7, surplus powder falling into a U-shaped fluidised bed 9, 8, 10. The base is reciprocated in the direction of component movement and also transversely to prevent a "trailing edge" effect being caused by the passage of the components. The leads 13 of the components 12 are stuck to a paper strip 14 which is transported past a series of fluidised beds 20 and heaters 19 (Fig. 2) between resilient pads carried by two conveyor chains 15. Cylindrical components 30 (Fig. 4), having been heated, are supported and rotated by their axial leads 31 along a fluidised bed, the centres of the sides being coated with powder directed down the sides of a chute 33.
