Abstract

1426567 Magnesium oxide chloride CHEMIEANLAGENBAU - UND MONTAGEKOMBINAT LEIPZIG VEB 12 March 1973 11815/73 Heading C1A MgO and HCl are produced by thermal decomposition of MgCl 2 in a continuous process in a current containing steam and more than 50% by volume HCl which has been pre-heated to above 900‹ C., the decomposition being effected at 600-2000‹ C. Part of the gaseous products after separation of the MgO may be used to dehydrate the MgCl 2 , then reheated by heat exchange with the remainder of the gaseous products and then re-cycled. Sintered MgO may be produced by feeding the MgCl 2 in countercurrent to the gas. The product gases may be dried with MgCl 2 solution.
