Abstract

142,652. Gray, B. P. April 29, 1919. Bar-shoes; sole-plates; renewable calks, treads, &c.-An inverted channel-section steel roughing- piece A is placed between the heel parts of the shoe with its two flanges or roughs 2 crosswise of the shoe. To support the roughing-piece and secure it in position, a flat resilient cross-bar C fits under the web and extends over the top surface of the shoe, to which it is secured before the shoe is applied to the hoof. The bar C may be recessed at 4, Fig. 5, to receive the sides of the roughing-piece. The upper face may be set down as shown at 6, .Fig. 12, in order that the top surface of the roughing-piece may be flush with the bar. As modifications, extensions, shown in Fig. 5*, gradually thinned down, may be formed on the roughing-piece, or a covering-piece may be applied to provide a suitable bearing for the frog. The roughs 2 may be formed integrally with the resilient bar. In a further modification, the bar C is made of leather. Two or more roughing-pieces may be used on one shoe, say one at the heel and one at the toe. The space between the flanges may be filled in with rubber, rope, &c.
