1426302 2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propanediol hydroxypivalic monoester BASF AG 5 July 1973 [7 July 1972 10 July 1972 12 July 1972] 31978/73 Addition to 1231605 Heading C2C 2,2 - Dimethyl - 1,3 - propanediol hydroxypivalic monoester is prepared by the disproportionation of hydroxypivaldehyde (a) in the presence of calcium, barium or strontium hydroxide in the presence of water or (b) in the presence of one or more oxides and/or hydroxides of lithium, magnesium, thallium, lead, bismuth, lanthanum, cerium, zinc, cadmium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and the oxides of calcium, barium or strontium in the absence or presence of water and in the absence or presence of calcium, barium and/or strontium hydroxide. The starting material may be the product of the reaction of formaldehyde and isobutyraldehyde in the presence of potassium carbonate or a tertiary amine in an aqueous medium.
