Abstract

1426135 Lining metallurgical vessels NOVOLIPETSKY METALLURGICHESKY ZAVOD 19 March 1974 12174/74 Heading F4B A refractory lining for a metallurgical vessel 1 is applied by an apparatus in which refractory material from a bin 18 is cleaned by an electro-magnetic cleaner 19 and passed by a feeder 15 to a vertical duct (14), Fig. 3 (not shown), of a column 8 and then by a conveyer 16 to a sand-slinging head 27. The column 8 is supported by guide rollers in a rail mounted gantry 6, and is vertically movable by a drive mechanism 7 and 10. A platform 17 turnable by the mechanism 21 and 22 is carried by rollers 25 on a support plate 23 at the end of the column 8. A carriage 26 diametrically movable by the mechanism 29, is supported on rails on platform 17 and carries the sand-slinging head 27, the belt conveyer 16, and a shaping support 28. As the platform 17 rotates the sand-slinging head 27 which is driven by the motor 30 feeds refractory material into the space between the vessel wall and the shaping support 28. A contact shoe (40) Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) moves over the surface of the lining as it is applied and controls the circumferential speed of the platform 17 to maintain a constant distance between the sand-slinging head and the level of the lining as it builds up. The drive 7 raises the column 8 and the drive 29 adjusts the diametrical movement of the carriage 26 according to the shape of the vessel and thickness of the lining required. On completion of the lining the rotation of the platform 17 is reversed and a knife (44) Figs. 4 and 5 is brought into operation to plane the top part of the lining preparatory to laying one or two rows of refractory bricks. In one embodiment of the invention the shaping support 28 may comprise rotating rollers (33) (34), Fig. 6 (not shown).
