Abstract
1426134 Buffers FRIED KRUPP GmbH 15 March 1974 [17 March 1973] 11663/74 Heading F2S A buffer comprises a plurality of compressible members of cellular material 1 disposed in axial alignment in a tube 2 with peripheral clearance, intermediate members 5 disposed between adjacent compressible member 1 and having cavities at either side into which the ends of the compressible members 1 are fitted, a plate 3 closing one end of the tube and having a cavity into which the adjacent end of a compressible member 1 is fitted, and a plunger 8 slidable in the other end of the tube and having a cavity into which the adjacent end of a compressible member 1 is fitted. The intermediate members may have antiextrusion rings 9, Fig. 2 (not shown), and may be formed from two cups 10, Fig. 3 (not shown), joined at their bases. Energy may be absorbed by friction between the compressed members 1 and the walls of the tube 2.
