Abstract

1425932 Fluid dampers A R B NASH 15 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 7619/72 Heading F2S A fluid damper comprises a body 2 providing a chamber 12 into which a vane member 8 projects, the vane member and the body having a pivot connection (pins 6) for relative oscillation about an axis extending transversely to the direction of projection of the vane member, and a flexible seal 32 extending between the body and the vane member to close the chamber. The chamber 12 is of tapered form, its crosssectional area reducing with increasing distance from the pivot connection of the vane member 8. Both the height and the breadth of the chamber 12 decrease. The vane member 8 is similarly but more sharply tapered, to allow pivoting movements of 5 degrees each side of centre of a rod 10 to which the vane member 8 is attached. The shape of the body 2 and the vane member 8 enables them to be produced as metal die-castings or plastics mouldings. Externally of the pins 6, the internal cross-section of the body becomes circular.
