Abstract

1425451 Dyeing polyesters IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 1 June 1973 [29 June 1972 (2) 21 July 1972] 30500/72 30501/72 and 34205/72 Heading D1B In a process for the continuous colouration of aromatic polyester textile materials or unions with natural textile materials e.g. cotton the material is padded or printed with an aqueous padding liquor or print paste containing an alkali metal salt of a disperse dyestuff containing a carboxylic acid, hydroxyaryl, sulphamoylaryl or tautomeric keto-enol group and no sulphonic acid groups, acidified to a pH below 7, subjected to a heat or steam treatment and then given an aqueous alkaline rinse. Acidification may take place by impregnating the material before padding or printing, acidifying the padding liquor or print paste before padding or printing, giving an aqueous acid treatment after padding or printing or by incorporating acid in the steam treatment. The pH is preferably lowered to 3-5. Unions of aromatic polyesters with viscose rayon or cotton are dyed with disperse and vat or reactive dyes respectively.
