Abstract

1425405 Ultrasonic viscosimeter; ultrasonic probes VYSKUMNY USTAV MECHANIZACIE A AUTOMATIZACIE 27 April 1973 [19 July 1972] 20243/73 Headings H4D and H4J A torsion vibrator for an ultrasonic viscosimeter comprises a magnetostriction bar 1 extending through a toroidal transformer 2 and coupled to a resonant extension 4 and a resonant probe 3. The points at which bar 1 is coupled to probe 3 and extension 4 are joined to a casing 6 through couplings 7, 8. The bar 1, casing 6 and couplings 7, 8 form the secondary of transformer 2, the primary of which is energized by A.C. or unidirectional pulses to vibrate the resonator. The vibrations are sensed by a pick-up coil 5, and their damping is measured to determine the viscosity of a liquid contacting probe 3.
