Abstract

1425393 Smallarms CARL WALTHER 14 March 1973 [14 March 1972] 12285/73 Heading F3C A hand firearm has a striker safety device comprising a pivotable safety pin 2, Fig. 1, which is disposed transversely to a striker 4 in the breech casing 1 of the firearm, the safety pin 2 is provided with a spring 6, Figs. 2 and 3, having lens 7, 9, the leg 7 being fastened in a recess 8 in the safety pin 2 and the leg 9 being held, under the bias of the spring, in a slot 10 in the breech easing 1 for the purpose of automatically turning back a safety lever 11 into the firing position as far as an end stop formed by a shoulder 1<SP>11</SP> in an arcuate recess 1<SP>1</SP> in the breech casing. The firearm is uncocked and secured when the striker 4, Fig. 1, is prevented from contacting a cartridge 12 by a striker catch 13 which is slidably mounted in a recess formed in the breech casing 1 and is urged by a spring 33. A trigger 17 is pivotally mounted on a pin 16 and, when pulled, actuates a sear 19 which is pivotally connected thereto by a pin 18. A portion 20 of the sear 19 engages a catch 21 of a cocking- piece 23, the latter, being pivotally-mounted on a pin 22, moves in the anti-clockwise direction. A web 24 of the cocking-piece 23 bears against a pawl 25 which, being pivotallymounted on a pin 26 carried by a hammer 15 and urged by a spring 27, moves in the clockwise direction until an edge 28 of the pawl 25 engages the hammer 15. Further pulling of the trigger 17 causes the pawl 25 to cock the hammer 15 until an edge 25<SP>1</SP> of the pawl 25 slides off the web 24 of the cocking piece 23 as shown in Fig. 4. The hammer 15, which is acted on by the pressure of a sear 29 and a spring 30, is now able to strike a portion 4<SP>1</SP> of the striker. Prior to the pawl leaving the web 24, the latter moves a releasing lever 31 in the clockwise direction about a pin 14. A portion 32 of the lever 31 moves the catch 13 against the force of the spring 33 and the striker 4 is free and unlocked. When the hammer 15 strikes against the striker 4 it is urged against the cartridge 12 which is therefore fired. On release of the trigger 17 the sear 19 returns and, through the action of a boss 34 formed thereon, the cocking piece 23 is rotated to its rest position. The web 24 of the cocking piece 23 slides along the back 35 of the pawl 25 which is moved, against the force of the spring 27 so that its edge 25<SP>1</SP> lies above the web 24 of the cocking piece 23. The rotating of the latter frees the lever 31 and the striker catch 13 is moved by the spring 33 into its locking position, this being its position of rest and the striker 4 is automatically made secure. A known releasing lever 36 is also mounted on the pin 14. When cocking is effected by the breech casing 1 or by the hammer 15, for example by hand pressure applied to an eye 37 on the hammer, the latter rotates the cocking piece 23 by a beak 38, Fig. 5, until the beak engages in a catch 39 of the web 24. The sear 19 is moved by the cocking piece 23 which engages the boss 34 and the trigger 17 is pre-cocked. The rotating of the cocking piece 23 rotates the releasing lever 31 and the striker catch is moved upwards. The firearm is now cocked and unlocked. Pressure on the trigger 17 releases the engagement between the hammer 15 and the cocking piece 23 so that the hammer strikes the striker 4.
