1425159 Preparation of phenylacetone compounds and their bisulphite adducts DDSA PHARMACEUTICALS Ltd 28 Sept 1974 42250/74 Heading C2C Compounds of formula are obtained by refluxing a phenylacetic acid of formula with acetic anhydride. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a catalyst such as anhydrous sodium or potassium acetate, H 2 SO 4 , perchloric acid or pyridine. Examples describe the preparation of 3,4-dimethoxyphenylacetone which is converted to a bisulphite adduct by treatment with sodium bisulphite.
