Abstract

1424902 Dental cleaning and massaging L J KOVACH 31 July 1973 36458/73 Heading A5R [Also in Division F1] A dental treating device comprises a hollow handle 11 housing a liquid reservoir 14 and a reciprocating pump 65 supplying liquid to a nozzle 12 through a check valve 76 which opens in response to the suction stroke of the pump. Valve 76 is loaded by spring 78 towards a valve-seat 23 and its upward movement is limited by a vertically adjustable rod 79 so that a variable passageway is provided for liquid flow from reservoir 14 to provide a jet of the desired pressure at nozzle 12. The pump is driven by an electric motor 83 powered by a .rechargeable battery 100 and controlled from switch 105. The nozzle 12 includes an apertured plug 41 rotatably engaged in socket 32 in the handle, the nozzle being locked in an angularly adjusted position by means of mating serrated annular surfaces concentric with the plug and socket. A nozzle element 51 is connected to plug 41 so as to be adjustable about its longitudinal axis. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1182031.
